Ahoy Pirates! In the month of September, we have had a exciting exchange news and wallet updates. We've also found another Pirate artist with a distinctly unique painting style. Starting with this edition of the newsletter we're changing the title of our monthly updates, same content, updated name. Check out all the exciting information in this newsletter!

Project Update

Polarity DEX listing

It probably is not news to many Pirates and crypto enthusiasts that although centralized exchanges (CEXs) have been instrumental in the rise of cryptocurrency, they have been fraught with problems. As the moniker implies, funds and server access are centralized, which unfortunately set these exchanges as targets of hacks. We are also all too familiar with the CEXs that exit scam with your funds that were left on the exchanges' wallets. Lastly, the issue of kyc is fast becoming a thorny issue with CEXs as financial regulations catch up with them (the most recent illustration being the US Department of Justice crackdown on Bitmex and dramatic arrest of Bitmex executives. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-10-01/bitmex-founders-and-executives-are-indicted-in-new-york)

Since the manic ICO bubble of 2017/18, the crypto industry has been talking about "the rise of DEXs" (decentralized exchanges) or "DEXs will replace CEXs." As the name implies, decentralized exchanges do not have a single point of failure. First, they are not a centralized corporate entity they cannot be reached by financial regulation authorities. Second, as DEXs are not corporate bodies, they are less incentivized to follow kyc+aml regulations. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, true decentralized exchanges do not hold custody of your funds in a centralized wallet, instead funds are held by you until the moment of a trade.

Shurli Update v0.0.2 release

The updated Shurli v0.0.2 PoC2 is available to download from latest release builds.

In this release, the user does not have to create the config.json file. The app will create a new set pubkey, address, and a sapling private address using a BIP39 seed phrase, all of which will be saved in the wallet.json file along with config.json.

Last words from the editor

Ahoy Pirates! There has been quite a bit of chatter over the past week about publicly traded companies with Bitcoin on their register. The hype started with MicroStrategy and followed by Square. Here's a list of some of the largest public companies with notable BTC holdings.

In March 2019, I had the notion that institutional shills of their bags will initiate a $BTC run. I believe we may be seeing this play out at the time of writing.

As with many phases in crypto, this "institutional shill" phase will bring likely bring more crypto noobs to bitcoin, and eventually the phase will pass.

Another topic that has been discussed at length in crypto twitter and fintwit is the topic of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). I am not an expert in macroeconomics and so I follow several thought leaders in this space. One of whom I respect is Raoul Pal, founder and CEO of Real Vision and Global Macro Investors.

In Raoul's treatise video titled, "The Bitcoin Life Raft: The End of Monetary & Fiscal Policy As We Know It" he talks about the impending inevitable revamp of global macroeconomics. He also talks about the rise of CBDCs. Many countries are already ahead of the game and will see transition to CBDCs in the next 2 to 3 years.

However, as we all know, and Raoul previously points out, there is an unfortunate compromise with Bitcoin and CBDCs. Privacy. We are witnessing the stage being set, inevitable changes are on the horizon for transparent digital currencies to replace current monetary transactions and pervade our lives. Privacy will be a glaring problem, users will flock to mixers/jumblers for temporary bandaid solutions. Others will seek private digital currencies. Pirate Chain is slowly but surely gaining recognition for its unrivaled strength of privacy. $ARRR and $XMR are two stalwarts in the private cryptocurrencies sector.

Once again, the course ahead for Pirate Chain is clear, it's not a matter of if but when.
